I know I'll get raked over hot coals for this...
a little backstory...
I'm from Minnesota, and when he first came to the NHL... he was a Blackhawk. This was at the peak of the North Stars/Blackhawk rivalry (late 80s/early 90s.) Before he was with the Blackhawks? He was playing NCAA hockey with the Univ. of MN biggest rival (one of them) North Dakota.. and he won the NCAA title while there. So, I was hating him prior to him coming to the NHL.. then add in the years with the Blackhawks and finally playing for the Stars (after they moved) and you start to see where I am coming from.
Last, I've always considered him an over rated goalie. Before you track me down and hang me from the nearest tree, I'm not saying he was a bad goalie... or that he was even an "average" goalie. But people (for years) said he was "elite," which to me means that he's in the top 5 all-time... even being called "one of the greatest" means top 10 all-time... which I don't consider him. If I had to throw a number/ranking out... I'd say he's in that next tier of "just outside" the top 10 goalies (top 11-20 goalie ever.)
BTW- if you are wondering why a Wild fan is posting here, I post on several teams boards because it's more fun to talk hockey with people outside of your own team (as long as everyone stays civil.) I've been posting on the 'Nucks board for over 10 years.

Me and some friends, pre high school, ran into Todd Harvey, Mike Kennedy and Grant Marshall one day. Grant was very cool, Todd was a tool and gave us the heisman because he was the next big thing in the NHL, now the biggest surprise was complete spare Mike Kennedy acting like he was Modano or Gretzky even more than Harvey. Complete 5Hole...sorry i meant A.

I consider Horcoff in the same bucket as something like Turgeon. If he wasn't making so much money, people probably wouldn't be stomping on him. I know Turgeon was a much better player than Horcoff is now, but that guy was constantly blasted for what was ultimately Hicks' stupidity in overpaying because he missed out on another deal.
Avery is a miserable POS on all levels. A cancer to the team/game/fans.
